Join us to hear from founders in our Innovation Lab who are building solutions for a sustainable future. From technology that empowers others to reduce carbon emissions to OLED manufacturing and EV charging, these founders are tackling issues at the root of the climate crisis.

Faith Davis, Founder and Director of Innovation & Technology at DAF Technologies

Faith Davis helps clients solves their biggest challenges through the use of emerging technology. She is also a reviewer of early stage startup funding applications and a loan executive to help startups reach their next significant milestone with TEDCO. Prior to DAF Technologies, Faith was a technology associate at In-Q-Tel a strategic venture capital firm where she focused on investments involving the mobile ecosystem. She has over 13 years of experience in technology development, strategy, and venture capital, and has worked at NASA, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, and The MITRE Corporation. Faith has developed deep expertise in the areas of wireless communications, networking, mobile applications, devices, and internet companies.  She has published several technical papers and has been a speaker at technical conferences, technology focus days, commencements, women’s conferences, and affinity group meetings. Faith earned a B.S., summa cum laude, from Howard University, where she continues to promote STEM-based entrepreneurship and innovation, and a M.S. from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering.

Veteran-owned Cosmos Roastery is Maryland’s first zero-emission specialty coffee roaster, which seeks to research and develop innovative roasting methodology designed to maximize coffee’s natural cognitive and health-boosting properties.

Dynamhex is deploying its Decarbonization as a Service (DaaS) software to make carbon emissions measurement, reporting, and reduction easier. They help reduce greenhouse gasses by empowering citizens, businesses, governments, and utilities to easily understand their current carbon footprint, model the impact of different possible actions, and track their progress toward climate goals.

GaiaXus, LLC is developing IoT-connected environmental monitors specifically designed for citizen scientists, students, and educators.  The first product will use next-generation sensor technology to acquire water quality data in a light, robust, and low-cost device.

Grateful Gardeners is a local, sustainable, and organic cut flower farm founded in Boyds, MD in the heart of the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve in 2018. Their mission is to produce year-round organic flowers and foliage to retail, wholesale, and floral design customers in the greater DC metropolitan region.

 

I-NESS 360 converts commercial spaces into data streaming sources to model human behavior and report how indoor circumstances affect that behavior by integrating the I-NESS system into the structure of the building. The system has  developed predictive models on usage trends and indoor circumstances to optimize space, energy usage, and operations without needing to invest in expensive BMS systems.

Loop Closing manages an on-site composting network that enables organizations to compost their food scraps at the source to meet their zero waste goals and live their values around the environment and equity while saving money one dumpster at a time. Loop Closing was a member of the Spring 2021 Accelerator Cohort.

MāKā is carbon-neutral ready-to-drink beverages are a delicious combination of wheatgrass, herbal tea, and fruit juices. +Energized+ by yerba mate & guayusa and infused with a light carbonation, MāKā provides enough organic-certified fuel to equal a cup of coffee. Living MāKā was a member of the Spring 2021 Accelerator Cohort.

Margik produces materials for organic electronic devices, such as OLEDs, solar cells, and smart window tech to improve device stability, efficiency, and lifetime. Margik’s materials do not employ any scarce or toxic elements, and they are multifunctional to enable the simplification of device designs.

Mas Panadas makes one of the most popular South America dishes available to everyone, and for that, we’re thankful! The empanadas are simple, healthy, and delicious, and they are a satisfying meal on the go. Mas Panadas is a member of the Amplifier program.

Old Dominion Flower Co. is a streamlined wholesale local flower hub dedicated to developing a sustainable flower economy. Old Dominion makes it easy for florists, event designers, and other floral businesses to purchase sustainably and locally grown flowers from farms throughout the region in one easy-to-use online wholesale marketplace.

Pirl builds next generation electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to accelerate the transition to electrified transport. Using the latest Internet-of-Things (IOT) technology, we deploy stations that charge rapidly, have a lower environmental footprint, and delight owners with an engaging user experience.

Terran Material Resources decommissions and transports industrial-grade lithium-ion batteries to recycling facilities. Their patent pending technology addresses the root cause of the high cost of shipping hazardous waste, by decreasing the hazards associated with shipment for public and private customers.

The Goods Finder is a platform aimed at helping individuals support social causes through daily activities and purchases.

TrueAlgae produces high quality microalgae which, under the right autotrophic conditions of sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients, can reproduce itself in water at an astonishing rate. Their products contain an abundance of healthy nutrients including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, minerals, chlorophyll and vitamins that are safe and can be used for a wide variety of applications: soil, plants, feed for poultry, animals and fish and nutraceuticals.
