Bethesda Green’s Environmental Leaders Program is an experiential school-year long sustainability program targeting high school students in their senior year currently offered for Montgomery County high schools. Watch the 2019-2020 Environmental Leaders project presentations.

Anjeli Smith, Walt Whitman High School Senior

“I am so excited to be a part of the Environmental Leaders Program! It is extremely difficult for my generation to express how–and I don’t say this lightly–hopeless we feel about the current progression of climate change. I believe my generation has a responsibility to change the course of the climate crisis. I also believe everyone has a responsibility in doing what they can to contribute to bettering the environment, which is why I chose this program. I want to gain experience in working with and learning more about the environment, in order to hopefully dedicate my career to shaping the outcome of the climate crisis.”

Eve London, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Senior

“I am passionate about environmental humanities. For me, this includes environmental activism, education, policy, justice, and economics. I am interested in the Environmental Leaders program because I want to work alongside people who are passionate about environmental awareness and protection. I am also interested in the program because I want to have a platform to explore an environmental project that I am passionate about such as petitioning to have an Environmental class be a requirement in MCPS schools.”

Nida Khan, Montgomery College Freshman

“I’ve always held a deep admiration for the environment and am interested in ways to protect and conserve it through practical means, which is why I joined the Environmental Leaders Program. The road to a sustainable future begins with the involvement of companies and individuals alike, and I am grateful to be a part of Bethesda Green’s initiative to do so. In my free time, I enjoy playing the chords C, G, F, and Am on the ukulele, getting bitten by various insects when hiking, and drinking Honest Tea.”

Arjun Shah, Senior, Walt Whitman

“I am aiming to try and make this wide-scale environmental problem that our generation has been tasked with saving… a little less wide. Knowing that this problem is far more than just one person, I hope to encourage everyone to contribute and do the most they can to be as eco-friendly and environmental as possible. ”

Maryclaire Wright, Bethesda Chevy Chase High School Senior

“I am very interested in sustainability and especially as it relates to eco-friendly cities and urban design. I am also interested in environmental engineering and how you can make buildings and cities more eco-friendly. I am planning to pursue civil/ environmental engineering in college with a minor in sustainable cities or design. The Environmental Leaders program looked like a great opportunity to explore my interests in sustainability and learn more about the business/non profit side of companies. I am very excited to be joining the team and can’t wait to work on projects! ”
