About Renewable Energy Sources

Energy Audits

Bethesda Green is working with Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR to provide groups of Bethesda residents with discounted home energy audits. Discounts for energy audits and improvements based on all homeowners using the same contractor.

About home energy audits

A typical energy audit costs between $300 - $600, depending on the home’s size, location, and your type of heating and cooling equipment.

Discounts for energy audits

  • 5 - 10 homes (15%)
  • 11 - 20 homes (20%)
  • 21 homes (25%)

Discounts for energy improvements*

  • 5% for energy improvement jobs under $2,000
  • 10% for portion of all work between $2,001-$5,000
  • 13% for portion of work between $5,001 and up

*The energy improvement discounts are specific to each home (not a group rate).

Steps

1. Your community needs to choose a point of contact, wheither it's a mayor, leader of community association, environmental coordinator, etc., to be in charge of coordinating with Bethesda Green and a contractor.

2. Once your community gathers homeowners that would like to participate, you will need the following information for each homeowner:

  • Full Name

  • Address

  • Phone

  • Email

  • Energy usage history from past year or last 12 months energy bills

  • Home’s square footage

  • Year home was built

3. Once this information is gathered, the point of contact needs to email info@mdhomeperformance.org with:

  • Name, email, and phone number of the point of contact

  • Community name

  • Number of commited homes

4. Within 2 weeks Bethesda Green will work to find other bundles to combine with your community in order for your community to receive a greater discount. While Bethesda Green is working to bundle your group with another community group, you will be sent a form to fill out with the information listed in step 2. If there are no other communities with which to bundle within 2 weeks, then your community may want to go ahead and contact a contractor.

5. The point of contact calls Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR at 240-223-5544 for a list of participating contractors offering these discounts. A list of questions will be provided to help the point of contact choose a contractor. The contractor will walk you through the rest of the process.
