Green Schools

Green Schools

Overview

Fact: Maryland’s first certified “green” school – Great Seneca Creek Elementary School in Germantown – uses 38 percent less energy per square foot than the average county public school and saves about $27,000 per year on electricity, water and sewer costs.

Our schools are places where children learn and where the community comes together for various events. Schools can serve as models of sustainability and environmental stewardship by doing things such as pursuing green building and maintenance practices, conserving electricity and water, and recycling as much as possible. Schools can also teach students the wonders of environmental science.

Working Group Agenda

Bethesda Green seeks to connect with public and private schools, as well as environmental educators, to encourage the introduction of green programs, from recycling to energy efficiency.  Our Green Schools Working Group is a combination of teachers, principals, parents, and GreenKids staff that works on the creation and implementation of green programs in our local schools.
